Oak commode of ample proportion. The piece has four deep and wide drawers, with a gentle curve to the front, and brass handles and key plates. Minor losses to the edge of a drawer.
Becoming fashionable with the French aristocracy in the early 1600’s, replacing the coffer, commodes were designed to capture the attention. Drawers offered ease of access to items, rather than having to delve to the bottom of one’s coffer.
The Louis XIV style is characterised by its majestic lines. 124 cm wide x 64 cm deep x 88 cm high.
